During transport packages risks water spray and rain. For this reason water protection is needed. Some materials have an excellent water protection and others have problems. Paper based packaging as corrugated which is used by many have some problems.
Normal materials are made of recycled fibres. The fibres become shorter and shorter every time the material is reused. Shorter fibre results in fast reaction for the water to be absorbed by the paper – and also a fast reduction in the specifications of the paper based packaging material.
New and excellent fibres are long and water has difficulties in being absorbed. The result is that specifications can last for days. Coated paper can also increase water resistance. The coating can be wax, plastic, print etc. Finally a plastic film over the package can do the job.
If you have suppliers in countries with bad access to forest products the quality of corrugated paper can be really bad.
