Freight is compressed for many reasons:
- More freight is stacked on top of the package
- The compression can be increased by shocks and vibrations
- Acceleration during braking, swinging can compress in a horizontal direction
- Fork lifters can be mounted with clamp handling equipment with hydraulic arms (the freight is compressed in order to lift the items).
It is very difficult to measure the risks of compression in practice. The reason is that general freight is loaded together with all kinds of other freight. In the process of loading you can never be sure how the transport means are loaded. Small parcels are sometimes in the bottom with big and heavy boxes above.
