You can drop test your product with drops direct on a concrete floor. But only corner drops can be made without other equipment. It is impossible to make edge and side drops direct from your hand. Just a little fault introduces just a little rotation into the free drop and you once again have a corner drop.
These drops you have to be able to reproduce either on a drop or shock tester.
